Treatment
What Botox is and what it can do.
"Botox" is the best known brand name for botulinum toxin, and in everyday language the word stands for every product with this active ingredient. Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine. For a few months it reduces the signal from nerve to muscle. The treated muscle contracts less strongly, so the skin above it folds less.
That is why the treatment works mainly on expression lines, the lines caused by movement: on the forehead, between the eyebrows and beside the eyes. Lines that stay deep even when the face is completely relaxed usually soften, but they do not necessarily disappear. We discuss this openly before treatment.
At our practice at Zurich HB, Dipl. med. Harris Romanos plans and injects every treatment himself. We use a preparation approved in Switzerland; which one, we discuss in the consultation. Dosing is conservative. The aim is a relaxed expression that keeps your natural movement. If needed, we would rather add a little at the follow-up than give too much at the start.

How your appointment works.
Consultation
We look at how your face moves, go through your health, medication and expectations, and tell you whether treatment makes sense. You know the price before we treat. CHF 50, credited if treated the same day.
Treatment
About 20 minutes. A few fine injections at the planned points, without anaesthesia. Most people go straight back to work. On the day itself please avoid sport and sauna, and do not massage the areas.
Follow-up
After about two weeks we check the effect. If one point looks uneven, a small touch-up is included in the price.
Duration
How long Botox lasts.
The effect starts after 3 to 7 days and is fully developed after about two weeks. On the face it usually lasts 3 to 4 months, in the jaw muscle often 4 to 6 months and in the underarms often 6 to 9 months. After that the body breaks the substance down and the muscle works as before.
How long it lasts for you depends on the strength of the muscle, the dose and your individual metabolism. We plan the next appointment together at the follow-up.
